The Challenge:
A major infrastructure provider aimed to launch a transnational 5G project in the transport sector – testing new connected and autonomous driving functions as part of an innovative approach to network deployment.
A key requirement: the project had to be not only technologically mature but also eligible under EU funding programs – without EU support, implementation would not have been possible.
Our Approach:
- Strategic advice on funding eligibility, thematic positioning, and program-compliant structuring
- Identification and engagement of strong partners from industry, research, and mobility – including European operators, technology firms, and universities with relevant expertise
- Facilitation of consortium building, clarification of roles, governance, and interfaces in an international project environment
- Development of a political narrative embedding the project into EU strategies on digitalization, resilience, and connected mobility
- Guidance for political communication at EU and national levels – particularly vis-à-vis DGs, federal ministries, funding bodies, and relevant transport and digital departments
Our Success:
The project was approved under a European funding program (CEF Digital).
The EU funding was decisive not only financially but also in providing political visibility and legitimacy. The project launched within a very short timeframe.
By tightly integrating business, academia, and the public sector across borders, a visible model for innovation-driven infrastructure cooperation in mobility was created.
This case shows: strategic public affairs does not just build acceptance – it enables projects that would not be possible without political backing and EU funding.
